Cholesterol is needed by the nervous system to insulate neurons and prevent damage that would interfere with the normal function of the nervous system.

Calcium also plays an important role in the central nervous system, especially within the brain. Calcium ions are essential in converting electrical impulses into chemical signals in the brain. The presence of calcium ions in the synaptic vesicles triggers the neurotransmitters to be released into the synaptic cleft. The signal can then cross the cleft and fuse with the dendrite on the other side, effectively helping to pass the signal to wherever it needs to go in the brain.

We have a nervous system to keep us from killing ourselves. If you walked on a hot sidewalk and didn't have a nervous system, you would destroy your feet. If you gripped a tool bar, you wouldn't know how hard to grip it because you couldn't feel it. If you sat on a hill in the summer time, you wouldn't feel the sun, the grass, or the wind. If God hadn't given us a nervous system, it would be a terrible world. If we did have a nervous system (Wich we Do) We could be happy! (And we are, some people anyway)☺☻

The Nervous System is necessary because without it no part of the human body can exist. It maintains homeostasis (makes sure all other systems are working). The human body cannot exist without it.

Does the central nervous system consist of the somatic nervous system?

No. Nervous System is comprised of the Central Nervous System (CNS) and the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) The PNS is comprised of the Somatic Nervous System and the Autonomic Nervous System The Autonomic Nervous System is comprised of the Sympathetic Nervous System, the Parasympathetic Nervous System and the Enteric Nervous System

What are two main jobs of the nervous system?
