Best Answer

the number of neutrons is not the atomic number.

The atomic number of an atom is the atoms number of protons. The number of protons is same as the number of electrons.

The number of protons is used as the atomic number so that the elements can be easily organized in polarity size and bonding probability.

How is the number of neutrons in an atom found?

The number of neutrons can be calculated if the atomic number and mass number of an element is known. The number of neutrons = Mass number - atomic number.

Are the number of neutrons equal to the atomic number minus the atomic mass?

false

What does mass do?

The Atomic Mass is equal to the number of protons plus neutrons. So if you know the atomic number then you can find out the number of neutrons Atomic # is the amount of Protons or Electrons Atomic Mass- Number of protons plus neutrons Atomic Mass-Atomic Number = Amount of neutrons

The number of neutrons in an atom can be found by subtracting the atomic number from the?

Atomic weight in atomic mass units = the number of protons + the number of neutrons. The number of protons is your atomic number. Subtract that from the atomic weight for the number of neutrons.

Atomic number of 2 and atomic mass of 4 how many neutrons?

To find the number of neutrons simply subtract the atomic number from the atomic mass. In this case there are two neutrons.

What does the number of neutrons determine?

they determine the atomic mass of the atom

What do we get while subtracting the atomic number from the atomic mass number?

We get the number of neutrons. Atomic number is the number of protons, and atomic mass is protons plus neutrons.

How can you determine the number of neutrons in an atom if its mass number and its atomic number are known?

It is impossible to determine the number of neutrons from the mass number and atomic mass, since the two are essentially same value. However, with the atomic number and the mass number, one can calculate the number of neutrons by subtracting the atomic number from the mass number.

What is the number of neutrons in an atom affects the atomic what?

The number of neutrons in an atom can affect the atomic mass of an atom.

If atomic mass of 16 and atomic number of 8 this means the number of neutrons in this type of oxygen is?

The atomic number refers to the number of protons in an element. The mass number can be used to indicate the number of neutrons because both protons and neutrons have a mass of about 1. An oxygen atom has 8 protons and 8 neutrons.

How many neutrons is in californium?

153 neutrons in the most stable isotope Number of neutrons = Atomic mass of an isotope - atomic number. Atomic mass of the most stable isotope of Cf is 251. Atomic number of Cf is 98.
