The CHP is the next most-voted-for party after the Green Party. Between 2004 and 2008 it declined in popularity. However, recent disatisfaction in the Conservative Party (the only currently "big" conservative party in federal politics) is bringing more and more people over to the CHP. Many people like the CHP for various reasons: their opposition to same-sex marriage, their opposition to communism, their opposition to corporate rule, their opposition to parties bribing voters with their own childrens' money...
The Whig Party emerged in opposition to President Andrew Jackson in the 1830s. The party was critical of what they perceived as Jackson's authoritarian style of leadership and his expansion of presidential power, advocating instead for a more balanced government that limited executive authority. The opposition party can contribute to good governance by acting as a constructive critic of the ruling party, holding it accountable for its policies and actions. By proposing alternative solutions and policies, the opposition can stimulate public debate and encourage a more informed electorate. Additionally, the opposition can engage in collaboration on bipartisan issues, fostering a sense of unity and shared responsibility for national challenges. Lastly, by ensuring transparency and advocating for citizens' rights, the opposition can enhance democratic processes and promote effective governance.

They serve to deter the ruling party from becoming more powerful than their position allows. Without an opposing party, we get dictatorships and totalitarian control.
