red is the farthest of all colors

Because the wavelength of red is less than the wavelength of blue. Meaning the red wavelength is shorter than the blue one. The shorter it is the farthest and slowest it reach the earth's atmosphere before it dispersed to sky.

Why is the sky blue while the grass is green?

The sky is blue because the atmosphere scatters sunlight. Light with shorter wavelengths (blue, purple, violet) is scattered more in the atmosphere, so the sky appears blue; this is the same reason that sunsets and sunrises appear red and orange: at sunset/sunrise, the sun's light hits the atmosphere at a low angle, increasing the distance that the light must travel through the atmosphere. Thus, more colors are 'scattered out', even the blue-end of the spectrum, leaving red and orange colors.

Why are sunsets red after a volcanic eruption?

When light from the sun passes through a greater thickness of the atmosphere more light from short wavelengths of visible light (blue and violet) is removed by scattering before it reaches your eyes leaving behind long wavelengths of visible light (red and orange) that also reflect off of clouds making them red too, that's what makes sunsets and sunrises red too because when the sun is setting or rising it's light has to pass through more gases in the atmosphere instead of in the afternoon when its high in the sky (blue sky). When volcanic ash is the air it thickens the atmosphere and can be reflected off of the particles.

Why is the sky blue during the day on earth but on the moon it is black?

Shorter (blue) wavelengths scatter more easily than longer (red) wavelengths. This is why the sky looks blue, you are seeing scattered blue light. This is also why sunsets are red. Because the sun is close to the horizon, the sun rays pass through more atmosphere than normal to reach your eye. All of the blue light has been scattered out, leaving the red light in a sunset On the moon, there is no atmosphere at all. No atmosphere, no scattering, no blue sky. There is nothing to see when you look up except the stars, the sun, the earth and the blackness of space. On Mars, there is a thin atmosphere. The wind whips up the Martian soil, filling the sky with red dust and making it slightly pink.
