the northern parts of these provinces are home to thousands of lakes and rivers, and it is quite cold in the Northern part of these provinces. It is rugged terrain and is not suitable for agriculture.
the southern parts of the Prairie provinces offer a much more temperate climate and have a landscape that is much more suited to agriculture.
