The South Pole is located where it is because the earth is spinning. If you spin a ball there will be two positions, the top and the bottom points round which the ball spins, these are the two poles.
The earth's continents (including Antarctica) drift slowly over the surface of the planet (moving at about 2 cm a year) sometimes a continent will drift over one of the poles, that is the state of things at the moment, Antarctica is positioned over the southerly pole, while in the north the pole is covered by the Arctic Ocean.

∙ 14y agoThe arctic is furthest north. The anti- arctic or Antarctica is furthest south. Antipodes doesn't just mean Australia.Any place on the opposite side of the globe is your antipode.
