This means the diet of the spider monkey is omnivorous. The spider monkeys' habitat is disappearing at an alarming rate. It is thought that over 35,000 acres of mature rain forest a day, is being destroyed to make way for new farm land. This habitat loss coupled with many monkeys being shot for food and their low maturation, is pushing this species closer to the brink of endangerment and extinction. Any organisation that helps prevent deforestation in South America will help save these marvellous monkeys from extinction.
