Density! Night air is colder, therefore the atoms vibrate less. A denser medium conducts waves faster than a less dense one does. Thats also why water conducts sound faster as well.

Why velocity of sound depend upon nature of medium?

The velocity of sound depends on the nature of the medium because the properties of the medium, such as its density and elasticity, determine how quickly sound waves can travel through it. In general, sound travels faster in solids than in liquids, and faster in liquids than in gases, because solids have higher density and elasticity compared to liquids and gases. Additionally, the temperature of the medium can also affect the velocity of sound.

Why is the speed of sound in the water louder at night?

A speed can't be louder or less loud. The sound itself can be louder; or the speed can be faster.

Why sound travel fast in night?

As temperature falls during the night the speed of sound slows slightly. However the apparent clarity of the sound often goes up as there are fewer competing sounds (traffic noise falls off, no lawn mowers working, etc). This may be interpreted as the sound being closer or coming to you faster.

Do missiles travel faster than sound?

yes, Even a rifle bullet may travel faster than sound, but even then, it cannot reach escape velocity. Rockets seem to have beaten the escape velocity problem. A space missile will travel more than 11.2 km/s, which is about 10 times the speed of a bullet. +/- [Sound velocity ~ 330m/s.] The first body to leave the Earth was the Sputnik.

Why sound travels faster during night time?

The only reason it would travel faster is if the air was more dense.

Why do sound waves travel faster through metal than air?

velocity of sound is proportional to modulus of elasticity of the medium. Metals have greater modulus of elasticity compared to that of air. Hence the result

Give the effect of density on velocity of sound?

as density of medium increase velocity of sound decreases.
