It's because Venus's atmosphere is mostly composed of carbon dioxide, and there are several layers of clouds many kilometers thick of sulfuric acid. The dense atmosphere traps in heat, producing a green house effect that raises the surface temp about 400 degrees; enough to melt lead.

Mercury, on the other hand, has almost no atmosphere, and therefore no way to hold in heat. While the side of Mercury that faces the sun is hot, the side facing away from the sun is actually quite cold, since heat is not held when the planet rotates.
