Different crops require different growing conditions and weather is one. This time of year nut and cherry trees bloom so if there is high winds the blossoms are blown off and there is no nut or cherry crop. Orange trees can take a frost for a few nights ( it makes them sweeter) but a freeze ruins the crop. Orange growers turn on fans, water the trees, and burn smudge pots to keep them from freezing. They stay up all night to take care of the trees/crop. Each of these growers uses the weather forecasts. Raisin growers worry about rain when the grapes are on the ground drying, so if there is rain the crop will mildew and rot and the crop is gone. When cotton is picked if it rains the cotton bolls can turn yellow bringing down the price of the crop. Again, weather is important to each grower.
