Wool for winter and cotton for summer.
Yes, I would wear a wool hat in 3.8°C (37.8°F) weather as wool provides good insulation, keeping my head warm in cold temperatures. Wool is known for its ability to retain heat even when wet, making it a good choice for chilly weather.
merino wool
Yes.
If that particular Irish person happens to live in Illinois, yes we wear wool sweaters!
Wool is suitable to wear in cooler months because wool insulates, so the heat won't escape and will protect you from the cold so you will feel warmer.
Yes.

- wool pants - wool jackets - wool vests - cotton shirt - suspenders - hat
Whatever you do don't wear denim. It is a very bad insulator and could cause you to get a really severe cold...or worse.Wool is one of the top insulators you will find but, however isn't good when wet!!!Try to wear pure wool(100%) for better results.Cotton is also a good insulator but ,like wool,is terrible when wet.My advice is to wear a woolen jumper with a rainlacket outside and that way you get the best of both worlds!!!!
Good quality wool can be any colour.
wool holds lot of air.air being bad conductor of heat make the wool a good conductor of heat.
