youhave a bad water pump or it is going bad. you are not using anti freeze 50/50 with water or thermostadt is bad. worse sanerio is a cracked head.Look under the oil cap if it a cream color or tan color then it is getting water inside the engine.

Locate the radiator. Locate the upper radiator hose. Follow it to where it connects to the motor. That's where your thermostat is. In the little housing that your upper radiator hose connects to.
The cooling system on this vehicle does not use a radiator cap on the radiator but on a remote tank. It may have a different (larger) cap on it than what you are used to seeing on the radiator.
The temp sensor is near the thermostat outlet. If the fans are inoperative I suggest you check the relay, which is located under the air cleaner box.
if it is a four cyl it is most likely under the passenger side of the engine at the end of the bottom radiator hose it is best to take of the exhaust manifold to replace it is possible that it can overheating if it it bad I have a 1996 Grand Am SE, and mine runs hot too. Its probably not the thermostat, if not, then try flushing the coolant system, or the radiator might be clogged up.
