There is not a real reason why your Stevens Savage model 311A was stamped two times in the same spot. It was probably a mistake and it was only suppose to be stamped once. If most of the other stamping looks like that, it was probably something that happened in the factory.

The 311A was not designed to be stamped two times in the spot. if most of the other stamping looks the same it was probably an accident that happened during the manufacturing of a specific batch of guns.

Stevens Savage model 311A should not have been stamped in teh same spot twice so that it looks like 311 on the left side and 3111 on the other. If the other stampings looks the same, it was probably something that was done during manufacturing.When putting stamps over each other in the same spot it can create something new. When putting a stamp of 311 over each other is can make it look like the stamp is 3111. It can happen with any combination of stamps.If you wanted to create the number 3111 with stamps but can overlap the stamp 311 and there will be an illusion of an extra one if you slightly overlap two stamps of the 311 stamp.
