This problem could be due to many things, but it's probably time for a tune-up. I'd start by replacing the spark plugs and the air cleaner. Also, if you are smelling raw gas, you might have a cracked fuel injector, or bad injector O rings. I learned this from experience on my "96. I replaced the O rings on two leaking injectors, as there were no visible cracks in the injectors. It helped but didn't solve the problem. Replacing the injectors was the answer. For what it's worth, my "96, when it's running well, gets about 33 MPG. FriPilot
