Your Mac may be so slow because it has very little RAM. RAM stands for Random Access Memory. The RAM is crucial for the speed of the computer, because the more RAM, the quicker the computer will start up and the faster applications can be loaded on the spot. There are RAM upgrade chips that come in 500 megabyte and 1 gigabyte forms. The culprit is the RAM, which if it is really slow, it may be around 200 megabytes of RAM.
Though, if the RAM turns out not to be the culprit, then your processor is the only other suspect. Any processor that is not over 1 gigahertz is too slow for this day and age. There's not much you can do about a slow processor.
I would think a mac because pc's break down and they are so slow!
If you Mac is slow after installing Mavericks simply do an incremental backup after you finish working.

What do you mean?If your mac is loading slow on startup, it is most likelyto do with its SSD; so I'd recommend getting that checked out, or clearing up some space :)
It's not likely. Protected router would slow down your internet especially if you have security options activated such as MAC filter, firewall, security for wireless networks and so on.
No it does not, there is a special disk just for Mac users. It costs about sixty dollars and you can buy it on the Apple Store or Amazon. I have heard there are problems with it though, it works slow but I have it shipping to me in a week or so.

The App store is an internet service. If the service has a lot of simultaneous traffic it will work slower. It doesn't necessarily have to do with your internet connection.
A common reason for Macs slowing down is the hard disc is becoming full. Ideally around 20% of the disc should be empty for use by the system. If this is not available then the Mac can struggle to allocate enough space which will slow it down.
