Magnesium is a more reactive metal therefore for using any extraction method you would have to use electrolysis, which is expensive.

Whereas for zinc it is extracted from its ore chemically by reduction using carbon. When an ore is reduced you are taking the oxygen out of the metal, this is because carbon can only take the oxygen away from metals which are less reactive than carbon its self.

For example, zinc oxide is reduced in a blast furnace to make zinc.

Can zinc iron and tin all be extracted by heating their ores with carbon monoxide?

No, zinc cannot be extracted by heating its ores with carbon monoxide. Zinc is typically extracted by roasting its sulfide ores to form zinc oxide, which is then reduced using carbon in a process called smelting. Iron and tin can be extracted by heating their respective ores with carbon monoxide in a process known as reduction.

How is carbon monoxide carbon nitrogen and sulphur made?

Carbon monoxide is the product of a not complete combustion of organic materials.Nitrogen is extracted from air by cryogenic distillation.Sulfur is extracted from mines or from sulfides.Carbon is graphite, soot or diamond.

How is silicon collected from the earth?

Silicon is extracted from silica-rich minerals such as quartz through a process called reduction. This involves heating the mineral with carbon in an electric arc furnace to produce silicon and carbon monoxide gas. The silicon can then be further refined for various industrial applications.

How are metals that are less reactive than carbon extracted from their oxides?

Metals less reactive than carbon, such as copper and silver, are extracted by reduction using carbon as a reducing agent. The metal oxide is heated with carbon (in the form of coke) to form carbon monoxide, which then reduces the metal oxide to the pure metal and carbon dioxide.

How are metals extractive?

well basically metal is extracted using carbon monoxide

What reaction is catalysed by a catalytic converter?

Oxidation of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide. Reduction of nitrogen monoxide back to nitrogen. Oxidation of hydrocarbons to water and carbon dioxide.

Write a word equation and a balanced equation for the reduction of zinc oxide?

If the reduction involves carbon getting oxidized, it would be... Zinc oxide + carbon -----------> Zinc + carbon monoxide that's ZnO + C ----------> Zn + CO or if the reduction involves carbon monoxide getting oxidized, it would be... Zinc oxide + carbon monoxide -----------------> Zinc + carbon dioxide that's ZnO + CO ----------> Zn + CO2

How do you extract tin from it's ore?

Tin can be extracted from its ore, cassiterite, through a process called smelting. The ore is heated with carbon in a furnace to separate the tin from the other elements. The tin melts and can be collected as it is denser than the impurities.

Which gas enters the bloodstream through the lungs and binds to hemoglobin and reduces the amount of oxygen that reaches the body's organs and tissues?

Carbon monoxide

How are minerals extracted from their ores?

metals are extracted from their ores according to their reactivity series.firstly, metals that are more reactive that carbon are extracted by electrolysis whic is breaking the compounds down using electricity.secondly, metals that are less reactive than carbon are extracted by reduction in which carbon is added to the metal ore, carbon react with oxygen and the metal remain by itself pure.example: Zinc oxide + Carbon ----> Zinc + Carbon dioxideGold and Platinum are found in nature by themselves.

What element is removed from ores when they are reduced?

The element that is removed from ores during the reduction process is oxygen. This reduction process involves adding a reducing agent, such as carbon or carbon monoxide, to react with the oxygen in the ore to form carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide gas, leaving behind the metal in its pure form.

Can Carbon Monoxide Go Through What if your Skin?

Yes, carbon monoxide can be absorbed through the skin, but the rate of absorption is much lower compared to inhalation. It is primarily through inhalation that carbon monoxide poses the greatest risk to health. If you suspect carbon monoxide exposure, seek fresh air immediately and seek medical attention.
