The Periodic Table of elements is a genius way to categorize the elements. In truth, we could strip the names from each, give them brand new names, and the Periodic table would still be sorted the way it is.

The table gives rise to trends of the elements. Each column denotes the number of valence, or outer shell, electrons that an element has. Each row denotes another full set of electrons. We can predict which elements will bond with which, which elements will form what types of ions (charged elements), and trends like electronegatively, atomic radius, and more!

because the atomic number represents both the number of electrons and protons, and the Atomic Mass is only an average weight of one mole of the substance. The weight of the substance can change depending on the kind of ions an element has. The atomic number is always constant as well.

it was organised to help all chemist have a better understanding of each individual element and also to help connect the similarities between each element and emphasis them. roughly that is the answer but the question itself could be branched off onto more subjects itself. The summary I have used is general not looking at the finer details

Because, that way they would know which ones were missing. The number of protons they have represents their number on the table, hence hydrogen is 1, helium is 2. No two elements have the same amount of protons, thats (the main thing) what differentiates them.

Because atomic number uniquely identifies the element, regardless of isotope or isotopic percentages in a mixture of isotopes. Atomic mass is not unique to an element.

The atomic number is more sure; it is related to umber of electrons, etc. and is specific for a chemical element.

Because the purpose of the periodic table is to display elements according to their chemical and physical properties. These transcend a man-made artefact such as the alphabet!
