Metaboric acid has the formula HBO2 and there are salts such as lithium metaborate with the formula LiBO2. HOWEVER this does not mean that there are discrete BO2- anions in the solid- there is a polymeric ion in the solid phase with the formula [(BO2)-]n .

Borates form are a large group of compounds with a variety of ions ranging from BO33-, B2O54- a cyclic B3O6 3- ion and loads more - the wikipedia article is not good so don't use it.

What is barium metaborate?

Barium metaborate is a chemical compound with the formula Ba(BO₂)₂. It is commonly used as a flux in ceramic and glass manufacturing processes. Barium metaborate is known for its ability to lower the melting point of materials, making it useful in reducing energy consumption during firing processes.

Why bf3 behave as Lewis acid?

Strong acids ionize fully in water to produce ions whereas weak acids donot ionize fully in water. Boric acid behaves as a Lewis acid and accepts OH- ions from water. It doesnot dissociate to produce ions rather forms metaborate ion and in turn release ions. Hence boric acid is considered a weak acid.

What happen when borax is heated with CaO?

When borax is heated with CaO, the borax is decomposed to form sodium metaborate and calcium metaborate. This reaction is usually used in analytical chemistry to detect the presence of boron in a sample.

What is the formula for the tin ions?

The formula for tin ions depends on their charge. Tin can exist as Sn2+ ions (called stannous ions) or Sn4+ ions (called stannic ions). The formula for stannous ions is Sn2+ and for stannic ions is Sn4+.

How do hydroxyl ions and hydronium ions affect pH?

Hydroxyl ions (OH-) increase pH by combining with hydronium ions (H3O+) to form water molecules, reducing the concentration of hydronium ions. Hydronium ions (H3O+) decrease pH by increasing the concentration of hydrogen ions in the solution, making it more acidic.
