Kids should have cell phones at age twelve or thirteen. That is when the kids start wanting to go over to their friends houses more often without you. Just in case anything happens while you are not around, they should be able to call you. Make sure your child is truly ready, but when they are, cell phones are good tools to allow communicate with your child, and to be sure your child is safe.
