Ingredients in bread?

The main ingredients in bread are flour, water, yeast, and salt. Flour provides the structure, water activates the yeast and binds the ingredients, yeast ferments the dough to make it rise, and salt enhances flavor and regulates fermentation. Other optional ingredients may include sugar, fat, and additional flavorings or additives.

What is the difference between baking power and dry yeast?

They are both leavening agents, but baking powder is chemical and yeast is organic. Baking powder causes the release of CO2 by the reaction of a dry alkali and a dry acid which are combined in the powder. Add water, and the alkali and acid react. Yeast, on the other hand, is an organism which consumes carbohydrates, releasing CO2 and alcohol. The organism remains dormant until exposed to liquid and carbohydrates which is why you start yeast in a bowl of sugar water. The organisms wake up, start to consume the sugar, and reproduce.

'How do we prepare yeast for use in kitchen?

In most bread, roll and pastry recipes, the yeast has to be "proofed", which means dissolving in warm water (110 degrees), with sugar to activate (or proof) the yeast. If the yeast begins to foam up and increase in size, then it is still good. If it doesn't, then the yeast is either too old, or the water was too hot or not warm enough. If the water is too hot, it kills the yeast, and if it's too cold, it won't dissolve and activate the yeast. You can get yeast granules in individual packets, in cake form, and granules in a jar. While you can use which ever type you prefer, it's usually best to use the kind the recipe calls for, at least until you are more familiar with the different forms of yeast, and how to use them. I prefer the kind in a jar, because I it gives me more control over how much I want to use, whereas the other types don't. The most common way to proof yeast is to put the desired amount in a bowl (I warm the bowl with hot water first), then add 1/4 cup very warm water, then sprinkle about a teaspoon of sugar on top. You can stir it if you want, but it isn't necessary. The yeast should be fully proofed in about 10 minutes, and ready to add to your recipe.

How do you make challah?

1 cup warm water 2 tablespoons sugar 1 package yeast 1 teaspoon salt 6 tablespoons vegetable oil4 eggs 5 1/2 - 6 1/2 cups flour Egg wash (1 egg mixed with 1 Tablespoon water) Sesame or poppy seeds (optional) Directions: In an electric mixer, fitted with a dough hook, place the warm water, sugar and yeast. Stir to combine. Let sit 2 - 3 minutes until bubbling. Meanwhile, combine salt, vegetable oil and eggs in a separate bowl. Add to yeast mixture. On low speed then add the flour. Mix until dough pulls away from the side of the bowl. Remove from mixing bowl and place in a large well-oiled bowl. Cover with plastic wrap. Allow to rise in bowl until dough is doubled in volume, (approximately 1-2 hours). Remove from bowl and punch down. Roll into individual rolls or braid into 1 large, or 2 medium loaves. Place on a baking sheet that had been sprinkled with corn meal (to prevent sticking). Cover for 1 more hour to rise. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with seeds if desired. Place in pre-heated 350 degrees F. oven for approximately 35 minutes, or until golden.

Yarn can filter water! Place one bowl on a table and another bowl a little bit more levitated. Place the white yarn each end in each bowl. Place dirt and water in the top bowl and wait an hour or so. BAM!! You'll see the white yarn has dirt on it and the top bowl no longer has any dirt in it!
