Liver is the main organ for various metabolic processes of your body. In a dog, liver is removed. All the functions of the liver artificially replaced. But the animal dies in three days time. That hi-lights the importance of liver and our knowledge about liver functions.

∙ 10y agoThe average weight of the human liver is about 1.5 kg; the brain averages about 1.3 kg, the lungs average about 1.1 kg per lung (so if we count both lungs, they jointly weigh more than the liver) and I have not been able to get an estimate for the small intestine, which is also one of the heavier internal organs of the human body, but apparently it is not as heavy as the liver. So the liver is considered to be the largest internal organ of the human body, by weight. If we were to measure by the greatest diagonal length (as if it were a TV set) then lungs would be the largest. But lungs are not as dense, they are highly porous organs, filled with air.
You may also want to know why it is that we need more kilograms of liver than we need of any other single organ. Livers are very versatile chemical factories which have many different functions relating to digestion. They do a lot for us. That seems to be the reason.
