The suits that the Apollo astronauts wore were not particularly shiny. They were white and reflected the sun's light and heat. The Mercury program astronauts did wear shiny pressure suits made of aluminium-coated nylon, to provide thermal and pressurization protection. They did not, however, go to the moon as their flights were sub-orbital and low-earth orbital.

Because they cannot breathe without oxygen and nitrogen, which is not in space, and they would freeze because thermal particles are slow moving, there fore, IT IS VERY COLD IN SPACE. EV suits have water tubes with either hot or cold water running througout that can control temperature of the person.

Astronauts wear shiny suits because they reflect the suns Infrared waves better then a dull suit would. So, in other words the suits help prevent over heating from the sun.

Infrared Waves: Invisible waves of heat energy radiated by any hot object.

You need to wear a spacesuit because there is no oxygen in outer space, so they wear the suits to provide oxygen. there are also extreme temperatures in space from hundreds of degrees when the sun is out and hundreds of degrees below 0 during the night, so they wear the suits to provide a suitable temperature for their bodies. it protects them from other cautions in space such as space dust orbiting the earth at incredible speeds. Also on earth, believe it or not, one ton of air is smashing down on you right now. Your body pushes out with the same force to prevent this. without the pressurized spacesuit, you would explode from all the force being pushed out by your body.
