Could be the vehicle anti-theft system (if equipped) is unable to 'read' the microchip in the ignition key. This will cause the anti-theft system to shut down the vehicle after about 5 seconds (to prevent theft). This could be caused by a faulty chip or anti-theft system, or if more than one chipped key is present on the key ring or in the vehicle. Try starting the vehicle with only the ignition key in or near the vehicle. If the vehicle stays running, then the problem is interference from another key. It may also be possible for electronic devices such as cell phones or garage door openers to cause interference. Try starting the vehicle without such devices inside or nearby.
