Drop panels are used to thicken the slab around the column in flat slabs to avoid punching shear. Since flat slabs have no stirrups shear is resisted by thickening the slab around the column to increase the concrete in shear. Beams can also be used, but generally drop panels are preferred to avoid conflicts with the electromechanical works of the structure.
Flat slabs are the ones with or without drop panels supported by columns without beams.... whereas the solid slabs are the ones supported by beams and columns and constructed monolithically
In flat slab you save time formwork of beams.
The different types of slabs are; one way slab, two way slab, flat plated slab, flat slab and grid slab
Like slabs of flat stones.
flat plates are solide concret slabs of uniform thickness that transfert load directly to the column without presence of projected beams and solid slabs surronding by beams
