The fact a generator is A/C is a function of how the generator works.

Think of voltage as water pressure.

A generator works by sweeping a magnet around the inside of a coil of wiring. This means that the electrons are being moved first one direction, then the other.

the result is A/C power.

D/C sources generate a constant stream of electrons from one side to the other, like a battery.

It's possible to convert AC to DC by blocking flow of the electrons in one direction, but AC power has a lot of advantages for power grid use: it can be put through a transformer, making high-voltage transmission over lines more efficient, and it is better for running motors, which is the largest use of electrical power in terms of the amount of raw power consumption.

The short answer: because the physics of a generator makes it impossible.

What do you mean by DC generator?

DC generator is used to produce direct current. The basic DC generator have four basic parts 1. A magnetic field 2. A single conductor or loop 3. A commutator 4. Brushes

How is a DC waveform produced from the output terminals of a DC generator?

you cant

How can an ac generator be converted to DC generator?

It may not be possible to physically convert AC generator to DC generator. What can be done is that 'Rectifier' of suitable capacity can be connected to the out put of AC generator to get DC supply.

What is DC generator?

because DC generator generates generally generate DC power but as it has slip rings which convert it into ac output power

What type of voltage is the output at the bat terminal of the ac generator?

dc

How the output characteristics of AC and DC generator vary from other?

AC generators have a varying waveform which is sinusoidal in nature, whereas a DC output is linear.

Theory for load test on dc shunt generator?

load test on dc shunt generator is a test to plot the internal and external characteristics of the generator.

What would happen if a shunt-excited DC generator was operated at too low a speed?

A shunt generator is a type of DC generator that does not use a permanent magnet. Reducing the speed of the generator will reduce the output, but not the load the generator requires because the currents in the parallel branches are independent.

Can you test the output amps of a DC generator with no load?

Any voltage source, whether a generator or a battery, will NOT supply an output current unless it is connected to a load. So the only way to test the output current is by connecting it to a load.

How is alternative current prodused in a battery?

A battery by itself will only supply DC output. You would need a method to convert DC to AC, such as an inverter, in simplified terms: an electronic circuit which has an oscillator to create the desired frequency then amplifies it to the desired magnitude output. Another way, which I don't know if used anymore, is a motor-generator set. A DC motor's shaft is connected to an AC generator's shaft, and the output is taken from the AC generator.

What happens if commutator of DC generator is removed?

If the commutator is removed from your generator, you (if you connect slip rings) get AC supply instead of DC supply. the function of the commutator is to convert AC to DC supply and vice versa.Additional AnswerRemoving the commutator will also prevent you from connecting the output of the generator to its load. Remember, the generator's armature is spinning!

Does a generator produce DC electrical current?

Yes, provided its a stationary field type generator and it has split rings on its armature. take a general dc motor used in tape recorders and observe it. it you give supply, its a dc motor if you rotate it by the help of other and take the output from its leads its a dc generator thats simple
