For one thing, dinos aren't mammals, so it's completely different. I believe that the dinosaurs may have just been too big to cope with the major environmental changes at the time, and mammals, being smaller and somewhat under-developed, adapted more easily. That's just a personal theory, though

Why aren't dinosaurs mammals?

Dinosaurs and mammals evolved from two separate branches of reptiles. Mammals evolved from synapisid reptiles (all of which are not extinct) while dinosaurs along with the modern branches of reptiles evolved from sauropsids. So dinosaurs are more closely related to modern reptiles than they are to mammals. In more recent years scientist tend to agree that birds are in fact a surviving branch of dinosaurs.

Did mammals appear in the fossil record before dinosaurs or after?

Mammals actually first came into existence about 220 million years ago, which is about 155 million years before the dinosaurs went extinct, and only about 10 million years after they themselves first evolved. So mammals actually lived alongside the dinosaurs, though played a much smaller role.

Did mammals evolve from dinosaurs?

No. Mammals evolved from synapsid reptiles, a group not closely related to dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are more closely related to modern reptiles and birds than they are to mammals.

What if dinosaurs were not extinct?

we and all large mammals would not be around

Which are older mammals or birds?

Mammals are older. The first mammals evolved around 220 million years ago, not long after the first dinosaurs. Birds evolved from small carnivorous dinosaurs about 160 million years ago.

Were dinosaurs egg laying mammals?

Dinosaur are not mammals. Mammals and dinosaurs evolved from completely different genetic lines. Birds are the closest and only living decedents of dinosaurs (except possibly a few rare species not known to science and only known to local tribal legend such as Mokele-Mbembe but this is not widely believed)

Is there a possibility humans evolved from dinosaurs?

Nope, humans are mammals. Mammals emerged shortly after the dinosaurs did, evolving from a very distant group of reptiles.

What was the mammal that evolved from a haramiyid?

The Haramiyida is a group of mammals that lived between 216 and 183 million years ago. The evidence is inconclusive, but some paleontologists believe that multituberculate mammals evolved from the Haramiyida. Multituberculate mammals existed until about 40 million years ago, so they outlasted the dinosaurs but are extinct now.

Why are there different dinosaurs?

There are different kinds of dinosaurs for the same reasons that their are different kinds of birds and mammals. Dinosaurs, like modern animals, evolved to match their environment and survive to reproduce. Some dinosaurs evolved long necks to eat branches off tall trees, and some dinosaurs evolved sharp teeth to eat other dinosaurs. Some dinosaurs evolved horns and thick skin to defend themselves against predators, and others developed thin frames and long legs to run away from predators. The basic principles of evolution worked the same way for dinosaurs as they do for modern organisms. Dinosaurs evolved into such diverse specihowes because they were the dominant vertebrates for over 160 million years.

It is the name of the geological era during which the dinosaurs lived and mammals evolved?

Both dinosaurs and mammals evolved in the Triassic Period of the Mesozoic Era.The earliest known dinosaurs are dated back to 230 million years ago.Mammals were thought to have evolved about 30 million years later, about 200 million years ago.

What geological time period did human life occur in?

During the last geological time period, the Cenozoic era the dinosaurs became extinct. As the smaller mammals we able to survive the humans evolved.

What did birds and mammals descend from?

Mammals evolved from mammal-like reptiles called synapsids in the late Triassic period. Birds evolved from theropod dinosaurs in the late Jurassic.
