because due to a fixed capacity and considering the wash out factor of some kind of reservations we are able to calculate how many rooms would be probably left vacant at the end of the day... so we figure out a overbooking factor and use this number to keep selling rooms, sometimes the wind blow the other way and ALL guests arrive causing a REAL overbooking situation and we should walk guest; but this is very rare in a well managed reservations office with good Revenue Management directions.
