Soils
The soil for planting the pineapple should be medium-textured or sandy, well drained, preferably flat or low slope, water table depth exceeding 90 cm and pH in the range of 4.5 to 5.5. The soil should not be subject to flooding. Clay soils can also be used provided it has good aeration and drainage.
Soil Preparation
Soil preparation should be in the conventional plowing and disking. You should avoid soils that have been planted with pineapple in the last harvest. If not, should make the incorporation of the material to the soil or in areas with high incidence of pests and diseases, it is the burning of crop residues.
Correction of Acidity
Despite being known as pineapple plant resistant to soil acidity, liming is recommended in order to provide primarily magnesium, important nutrient for plant development. The amount of lime should be recommended according to soil analysis, taking care not to raise the soil pH values above the ideal range of culture (4.5 to 5.5), because this will lead reducing the availability of certain nutrients to the culture and foster the development of fungi to pineapple like fungi of the genus Phytophthora. It is recommended to perform the setting with about 30 to 90 days prior to planting.
Planting Season
On dry land crops, it is recommended to plant at the end of the dry season and early rainy season. In irrigated crops, the planting can be done throughout the year.
