Its called the lateral recumbent position or recovery position. If they are placed on their side, assuming they have a pulse and patent (open) airway, then they wont choke on their tounge or vomit.
Positioning them on their side also prevents the abdomen from squishing the organs.
If a spinal injury is suspected they need to be kept supine (on their back) and suction will have to be used to clear an airway.
To prevent the victim from strangling in case he should vomit.
Turned on their side in case s/he vomits.
Lay the victim on their side in the rest position and await for emergency personnel while monitoring the victim for any changes.

Call 911, do not move the victim, do bot try to pull the metal out, and do not shake the victim in a an attempt to awaken him or her.
A stroke victim should be assessed bi-laterally (both sides) If the victim is awake check the radial (wrist) and if they're unconscious check the carotid (neck). Make sure to check both the left and right side of the victim and note any differences.
The flag shouldn't be placed so it blocks the Speaker at any point, but placed to the side of where the speaker is located.
Leave the AED attached and place the victim in the recovery position by rolling them onto their (preferebly left) side.
