He no longer does.
for fun
for finding America when he was really looking for India
Christopher Columbus is often credited with "finding" America in 1492 when he landed in the Bahamas, although he never set foot on the mainland of what is now the United States. It's important to note that Indigenous peoples had been living in the Americas for thousands of years prior to Columbus's arrival. Additionally, Norse explorer Leif Erikson reached parts of North America around 1000 AD, long before Columbus.
Most Vikings travels are finding new islands everywhere they go, some vikings travel to find new land. Leif Erikson actually was the first European to step on America, 500 years before Columbus.
I believe he found gold and treasures and he had ran into the Indians
Christopher Columbus had the objective of finding India but instead he found an island and returned back to Spain. He DID NOT DISCOVER AMERICA.
No one. His trip wasn't sponsored.
That's a good question. Well everyone credits Christopher Columbus because accordingly, he was sailing around a found North America. There isn't any information in the history textbooks talking about Lief Ericsson. So maybe that's why he isn't mentioned for finding North America
Neither, Lief Erikson found the new world in 1100-1200. But Christophor Columbus found it in 1492 after lief erikson left so he gets credit for it. ---------------------- While the above is correct, to help with the Columbus / Raleigh issue that is raised here the following facts are relevant. Christopher Columbus is credited with finding the new world (actually he first saw the Bahamas) at 2 a.m. on October 12, 1492. He did not actually reach the American mainland until his third voyage in 1498. Sir Walter Raleigh was not born until about 1552 (his exact date of birth is not known). Thus Columbus' voyages of the new world predate Raleigh by at least 50 years.
was Columbus's voyage to the new world successful
IT was him.
Because Columbus' voyage of finding the New World was an failed attempt so instead he found America (which was the New World) and it led to the permanent contact between America and Europe...so that is why the contact is significant between the two.
