Some people would need facial reconstruction, after an accident, for example.
Others, like myself, would need a part of the body repairing after a major operation. I have a tumour on my right hip and will need some form of plastic surgery to have it put right, afterwards.
It's not all nose and boob jobs!

∙ 12y agoI, personally, would not choose to have cosmetic surgery, but I do not believe cosmetic surgery should be banned.
We are a nation founded on freedom. People are free to choose to have cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery is well regulated. Surgeons must be qualified and a patient has to be screened and told all the risks involved prior to going through cosmetic surgery. This means that the surgeon must determine that the patient is a qualified candidate for the surgery. To determine this, the patient is examined physically to be sure they are physically fit to go through the surgical procedure. The patient is also questioned to be sure the person is capable of understanding what is involved and able to make a decision about whether or not to have cosmetic surgery. The patient is told the specific steps of the procedure and must be told the medical risks involved. This allows the patient to make an informed, educated decision on whether or not he or she wants to have the surgical procedure.
People have cosmetic surgery for many different reasons. Some people want to look younger. Some people have a physical characteristic they feel is so unattractive they want to change it. An example might be a large nose. As long as the procedures are done according to medical standards, why should the government decide whether an individual can or cannot change the physical appearance of their body?
