How is the telivision bad?

On the good side, television:

1. allows us almost instant access to world and local news
2. allows us to learn about and from other cultures
3. exposes us to alternate viewpoints, current research, activities involving curiosity and imagination, and lets us see the world through other people's eyes
4. provides 24-access to entertainment and learning
5. offers ongoing "company" to shut-ins

On the bad side, television:

1. overloads people with 24-hour new, which can increase anxiety and depression
2. promotes a sedentary lifestyle and decreases exercise, which contributes to obesity
3. often gives mindless forms of quasi-entertainment without much value, e.g. "sitcoms", "reality shows"
4. becomes an addictive way to pass time without personal creativity and imagination
5. removes us from or interferes with personal relationships and social activities
