∙ 11y agoProbably because learning how to cook isn't a general subject that needs to be taught. Not everyone needs to learn how to cook to examination standards.
I disagree. It should be curricular.
My school taught us boys metalwork or woodwork, and the girls domestic science. Despite my interest in practical skills & knowledge I now use professionally and privately, I wish we were taught domestic science too, as it's as important as craft skills.
Everyone should be able to cook at least simple meals in a reasonably varied and economical diet, to understand the basics of nutrition, foods and their purchasing; and to be able to carry out minor repairs to your clothes etc. After all, when you leave school you will sooner or later have to fend for yourself....
That's whether or not you take it to exam standard: it could be an option for exams, but should still be taught to everyone.
