Yes, but only to do the most basic focusing. Keep in mind that you can break your slide if you move too close with the coarse adjustment knob and any focusing close to the slide should be done with the fine adjustment knobs. (taught HS Chemistry). Hope that helps!
You may easily break or crush the slide.

On a the microscope I use, the ocular (eyepiece) has a magnification power of 10x. The 'low' (or 'scanning') objective lens is 4x, the 'medium' has a power of 10x, and the 'high' has a power of 40x. Multiply the ocular by the lens you're using to get your 'total magnification.' TIP: Only use the coarse adjustment knob while on 'low' power, then use the fine adjustment. Why? If you use the coarse adjustment knob on 'medium' or 'high,' there's a good chance you'll crack your slide. -BugCrunch

The fine adjustment knob should be used only with the high-power objective (HPO) because it allows for precise focusing at high magnifications. Using the fine adjustment knob with lower-power objectives can result in the objective lens hitting the slide, potentially damaging both the lens and the slide.
The fine adjustment on a microscope should be used when you need to make precise focusing adjustments to clearly observe the details of a specimen. It is typically used after using the coarse adjustment knob to bring the specimen into approximate focus.
The fine adjustment screw is used when focusing the 40X objective. The coarse adjustment screw should only be used with lower magnifications to bring the specimen into rough focus.
use the fine adjustment knob to get a better view of what you are looking at.For low power you can use the coarse adjustment and fine adjustmentfor high power you should only use the fine adjustment because on high power, the objective lens is too close to the slide and using the coarse adjustment may scratch the objective lens.
