Because it makes the electoral system unfair. It can give an advantage to one candidate and disadvantage another one. It can do the same for whole sections of society resulting in discrimination. It is an abuse of democracy. Democracy should be fair and equal to all, but gerrymandering disrupts all of that.

It rigs the vote. If a political party can set up an area that is the majority of that party then the votes cast will be for the candidates of that vote. This discounts the other party and puts them on an uneven playing field. In a democracy this is wrong.
Gerrymandering is not illegal in this country. Although it definitely has bad ethical and immoral implications, it is still being used in the United States. Gerrymandering deliberately attempts to disenfranchise certain voters and favor one particular political party over the other.
