I believe that you only need to wear a uniform if you work as a chef or other cook; if you're cooking at home, then no uniform is necessary, obviously, but there are some things you should and shouldn't wear while cooking regardless of your occupation; long, loose sleeves and overly-baggy or loose clothes (especially jeans) can be potentially dangerous in the kitchen.
