Thongs and their counterparts (G-strings, T backs) have commonly been associated with sexual gratification and are considered among the most sexy undergarments around.

Thongs as shoes should and can be used at the beach as sandals in order to expose the feet to the sun and water. Thongs promote ventilation for the feet and a break from the dark and confined environment characteristic of closed shoes. Also, thongs should be worn in communal bathrooms and showers to decrease the likelihood of fungus and infections coming into contact with the feet.
