basicallyit is the closest point to the heart it can be mesared so ideal should be left arm, as blood pressure is a direct measment of force of the heart, presure will be lost further away from heart, the measured position is also for a convience as the atery in arm lies closer to the surface so restricting this artery and listening for the Korotkoff sound to measure the pressure is easier.

The upper arm is level with the heart and close to the heart, so it's a good place to measure blood pressure. You could measure blood pressure in your toes, then do it again with your legs in the air and get a completely different reading.

It is taken at the upper arm due to the location of the brachial artery in the crook of the elbow. It can however be taken on the leg as well. It is elevated to the level of the heart to give the most accurate reading. If the arm is elevated above the heart, the pressure in that arm drops. If it is below the level of the heart the pressure increases.

Why should your arm be at the same level as your heart? What does that suppose to mean? You tell me.

bp is taken in the upper arm because its near to the heart and can detect the systo;ic and diastolic accurately

You can use either arm but it's best to use the left arm. Probably because it's closer to your heart. Just a guess on why.

What is a polar heart monitor?

Polar heart rate monitors are generally used for working out, as they help you measure your heart rate to get to the right intensity or exertion level during your workout. With high blood pressure what you should be looking into is a Blood Pressure Monitor, which will allow you to track your blood pressure daily.

What is the range for high blood pressure?

A healthy blood pressure range would be 120/80. Often if your blood pressure is higher than this you will be told you have high blood pressure and anything lower would be low blood pressure. If your blood pressure is over 140 then you should take steps to reduce this.

What should human blood pressure be?

Ideally, we should all have a blood pressure below 120 over 80 (120/80). This is the ideal blood pressure for people wishing to have good health. At this level, we have a much lower risk of heart disease or stroke.

When obtaining a patient's blood pressure the patient arm should be?

Resting at or just below the level of the heart. If raised higher in the air, it will affect the BP reading.

Does blood pressure rise when there is exertion?

Your circulatory system maintains pressure in your arteries and your heart pumps against it. Blood pressure numbers reflect your arterial pressure when your heart pushes blood through your system, and also when your heart rests between beats. The "active" pressure is the top number on your blood pressure reading. It is the "systolic" pressure. The "passive," or "resting," pressure is the bottom number, and represents the "diastolic" pressure. Healthy blood pressure numbers are 120 systolic over 80 diastolic, or slightly lower Blood pressure changes throughout your day, depending on your position, your anxiety level, and your activity level. Chronic high blood pressure increases your risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke, but temporary increases in blood pressure allow you to meet the demands you put on your body when you exercise. Without adequate pressure, your blood delivery system fails. so,yes !!

What should blood pressure level read?

blood pressure can be too low and too high, if it is over 140/90 you should think about seeing a doctor.

Why is the sphygmomanometer kept at the level of your heart while measuring your blood pressure?

If it is below your heart then the reading could be falsely high; if it is too high, falsely low. This is due to the hydrostatic component of the blood pressure, which is due to gravity and varies only with the height of the point being measured (in a standing position lowest at the head, highest at the feet). When measuring blood pressure it is desirable to have the same hydrostatic component as at the heart. Therefore, by convention, the "right" blood pressure is the one taken at the heart level. Please note that a 10 cm difference in level between the point of measure and the heart would introduce an error of 7.6 mmHg.

What types of error may be involved in the blood pressure?

Improper positioning of the patient can effect blood pressure readings. The patient should be sitting upright with elbow slightly bent, resting the arm on a surface that is level with the heart. This will give you the most accurate reading.

What is the medical term meaning systolic?

Systolic Pressure (the other is Diastolic) is the squeezing of the ventricles as they push blood out of the heart and along the arteries to either the body or the lungs.Diastolic Pressure is when the heart is at its most relaxed after the Systolic squeezing.ie a Blood Pressure reading of 120/80mm Hg (which is the ideal) is 120mm HG Systolic Pressure - when there is the most force pushing the blood - over 80mm HG - when there is the least force behind the blood flow.systolic reading denotes the force of contraction of heart and diastolic reading represents relaxation of heart

How blood pressure is greater than atmospheric pressure?

Blood pressure is the blood flow when the heart is pumping (top number) and when the heart is resting (bottom number). The body is a closed system and requires enough blood pressure to pump the blood throughout the body. A typically healthy blood pressure would be 120mmHg/70mmHg. Atmospheric pressure is the weight of the atmosphere at a specific location and altitude. At sea level, atmospheric pressure is 760mmHg. So actually, atmospheric pressure is much greater than blood pressure. Most people never have to worry about atmospheric pressure affecting blood pressure. However, deep sea divers experience an increase in blood pressure while diving, and astronauts experience a decrease in blood pressure when in space.
