You should never fish under electricity pylons because if the metal hook of the fishing rod comes into contact with the pylons, then the electricity flowing through them will conduct unto the metal.

After this, the electricity travels along the fishing line. When the electricity comes onto contact with your skin, then you will instantly be electrocuted and you will die!

There is no reason why you should not fish under electrical pylons. Where high voltage lines cross over water areas and a mid span tower is needed because of the lines length, the tower has to be built on a concrete base. These concrete bases are designed and engineered to take the weight of the tower plus the weight of the high voltage lines. This will encompass a very large footprint to span the base of the tower and the base height above the water line will be in the neighbourhood of five to six feet above the waterline. All fishing below this power line installation will be done from a boat. The tower will be at a ground potential due to its construction and the isolation from the high voltage lines is done at the top end of the tower not the bottom. To insulate the high voltage lines from the tower, stacked insulators are used. Each insulator can be rated up to 10000 volts, two in series will be rate for 20000 volts and so on up until the line operating voltage is reached. So if your hook gets caught on the tower, all you will have is a snag above the water rather than a snag under the water. You will not become instantly electrocuted you will become mildly annoyed at loosing more fishing tackle to a snag.
