A stroke affects different parts of the brain - it varies from person to person. Some sufferers have their memory affected, some have speech problems and some have restricted movement. Some even suffer more than one 'problem'.

My late wife suffered a bleed on her brain that robbed her of speech and swallowing. Her right side of her body became paralysed. So people suffering a stroke may suffer confusion, etc. because the brain is is the main control centre of the body.
