aggregates are used to concrete for following purposes:

1.if totally binding materials like cement is used in concrete, the cost of concrete will be high which is uneconomical.

2.to prevent high shrinkage of concrete mix fine aggregates are used.

3.to increase the volume of concrete mix aggregates are used.

Is cement and concrete the same thing?

No, it is differentCement is a constituent of concrete.Where as concrete is a mixture of cement, fineaggregate, coarse aggregate and water.

What is the Working principle of no fines concrete?

No-fines concrete as the term implies, is a kind of concrete from which the fine aggregate fraction has been omitted. This concrete is made up of only coarse aggregate, cement and water.Very often only single sized coarse aggregate, of size passing through 20 mm retained on 10 mm is used. No-fines concrete is becoming popular because of some of the advantages it possesses over the conventional concrete.

What are the differences between cement mortar and concrete?

Cement mortar is a mixture of cement, fine aggregate and water.Concrete is a mixture of cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate and water.Generally, concrete have higher strength than cement mortar.

Is concrete a element or compound?

Concrete is a mixture.Concrete is composed of cement and other cementitious materials such as fly ash and slag cement, aggregate (generally a coarse aggregate made of gravels or crushed rocks such as limestone, or granite, plus a fine aggregate such as sand), water, and chemical admixtures

What is coarse aggregates?

Raw materials that are a component in concrete, aggregates are inert granular materials such as sand, gravel or crushed stone. Coarse aggregates are particles greater than 4.75mm, but they generally range between 9.5mm to 37.5mm in diameter. Primary coarse aggregates come from the land or water. Secondary aggregates are the by-products of extractive operations. The third source coarse aggregates come from is recycled aggregate, which is sand, and recycled concrete aggregate.

Why fineness modulus of coarse aggregates is more than that of fine aggregates?
