There was nothing all that special about the "super moon"; the Moon gets that close to Earth EVERY month. The catch is that when the Moon is closest to the Earth - perigee - is rarely precisely at the time of the full moon. That combination of a full moon just at perigee only happens every 28 years or so.

The moon is already close to the earth

Is it true that there is a super moon?

yesThe "Super Moon" Is an event where the moon is a full moon and it will be as close as it can get to Earth called perigee. The Moon will be in line with the Sun and the Earth. This event usually occurs every 15-20 years

Why is a super Moon super?

Because at the point of full moon it is about 50 thousand kilometers close to the Earth than usual and therefore appears slightly larger and 30% brighter than usual. This happens because the Moon does not go round the Earth in a perfect circle but in an ellipse. Its orbit therefore takes it away from the Earth at times and at other times it brings it closer to the Earth.

How close is it from earth to the moon?

Not really.

How does the moon stay close to earth?

The moon stays close to Earth due to gravity. The gravitational force between Earth and the moon keeps them in orbit around each other. This balance of gravitational forces prevents the moon from drifting away from Earth.

How does the temperature change when the moon is close to the earth?

It doesn't - the moon's proximity to Earth has no bearing on Earth's temperature - the Sun does that.

Why did we have a super moon in why did we have a super moon at the weekend?

We had a supermoon at the weekend because the moon's orbit around Earth is not a perfect circle, but rather elliptical. When the moon is at its closest point to Earth (perigee) during a full moon, it appears larger and brighter, creating the phenomenon known as a supermoon.

What is the close space object to earth?

moon

Why was the moon so close to the earth on 19 march 2011 How does the moon get close to the earth?

It was not especially close; the perigee distance is 363,104 km. The Moon orbits the Earth in an elliptical path, and it comes that close to Earth every month. But the orbital cycle isn't on the same schedule as the phases of the Moon. The Moon happens to be exactly full at the very same time as the Moon reaches perigee only once every 28 years or so.

How close is the moon from earth?

The moon's average distance from earth is listed as 238,855.7 miles (384,401 km).

What causes a super moon?

In short: the proximity of the moon to the earth.During the most recent "Super Moon" on March 19, 2011, the moon was at its closest point to the Earth since 1993.On this same day, the Moon was in its Full Moon phase, meaning that the entire side of the Moon facing Earth is visible as the Sun reflects its light off that entire side of the Moon. So, here on Earth, we are able to see a Full Moon that is closer than normal to Earth -- what some people call a Super Moon.

How does a super moon occur?

Its just a full moon during the period of the closest approach of the moon to the Earth.
