In the 1976 election, minor party candidates, particularly independent candidate George Wallace, did have an impact, although they did not win any electoral votes. Wallace garnered a significant share of the popular vote, particularly in the South, which influenced the dynamics of the race between the major candidates, Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford. His presence highlighted regional discontent and contributed to the broader conversation about issues of the time, but ultimately, the election was primarily decided by the two major party candidates.

False. James Monroe faced little opposition from Federalist candidates during the 1816 presidential election. The Federalist Party was in decline at that time, and Monroe ran largely unopposed, securing a decisive victory. The election is often seen as a sign of the decline of the Federalist Party and the era of good feelings in American politics.

To find out who is running for local office in Burlington, I recommend checking local news sources, the official Burlington city website, or the local election office for the most up-to-date information on candidates and upcoming elections.
Sure, and in fact they often do. They wouldn't do so near the general election, because by then most of the time each party has its candidates already chosen, and there's not really much point in having the guy you've already chosen debate a bunch of guys you passed over. Before the primaries, though, it does make sense to have the candidates for each party debate each other.
