this contributor just thought of a different way to explain it. See how you like

this one:

The "night" sky is the sky directly away from the sun.

The whole earth is traveling a giant, almost-circular path around the sun once a year,

so the direction away from the sun is a slightly different direction every night, pointing

toward different stars.
