It has to stop all the processes to avoid damage. If you turn it off without shutting down once, it should be fine, but if it's done consistently, it could cause damage.

No that is not preferable as when the computer is shut down it completely stops all its processes going on and then safely shuts down the computer! where as when we switch the computer off then we might destroy or files and softwares and even the hardware can be damaged ! my advice is to shut it down it will take time but atleast it will be safe ! =)
