Sports car's have powerful engines . So if the engine it attached to the front wheels then front wheel's would have to the acceleration as well as the steering which would spoil the handling especially during turning fast (the reason front engine car screech during turing fast).
Now putting the engine at the back and connecting it to the rear wheels , the rear wheels would do the job of accelerating , and the front wheels would be free to do the steering part .
Some are just for looks, but some are functional. The function they are used for is to create down pressure on rear axle for traction purposes at high speed. When you drive at higher speeds, the air being directed over the car by aerodynamics would then hit the spoiler wing and push down on rear of car giving them more traction and control, especially if it rear wheel drive.
Haha, NO!
Around 67.932 cars are sports cars
Racing is a sport, sports cars are the model of cars used in those series. Sports cars by definition are good handling, high power to weight 2 seaters.
Flared fenders and spoilers on cars is a good example.
They are flaps on the back, mostly meant for race cars but people like the look of them on their cars. They are designed for high speeds. The air hits the spoiler and pushes down on it, pressing on the rear of the car. This prevents the back end from actually lifting up at high speeds.

Depends of the year? Usually what differs a muscle car and a sports car(other than yr.) is handling. A Muscle car in the day was stop light to stop light, a sports car is more about handling back then.
