Why the keys in key board are irregular?

Keyboards used to be in alphabetical order back when typewriters first came out. But people got so fast at typing that the keys would jam up. S, they scrambled the letters up to make it harder. By the time typewriters were obsolete, it was too late too change it all up again because everyone was used to the scrambled configuration.
