Many invasions took place over the years. Most of them where in cold war times and WWII era. Normandy was pretty much planned by the US. If it was between 1945-2000 it was probably against the Soviets(Russia).

Reportedly, the CIA had been promised US air support by US President Kennedy. Since it was clear that the US was behind the invasion, why air support did not arrive remains a puzzle. As an aside, there were rumors that the CIA was so angry with JFK, that they were responsible for JFK's assassination. This has never been proved.
