If there is a red X on your media, the original source file can no longer be located by Windows Movie Maker. RED Xs mean the original media used in the project has either been changed, moved, or deleted and is no longer available.
Media with red Xs will have to be imported into the program again.

The best you can do to sync the audio with the footage is by dragging the media along the time-line (and hope the sound lines up half-decent with the footage).Sorry, but WMM is a very basic video editing software application with limited features.

However, you would be editing the published version of the project (not the original MSWMM project version).This is the best way to put a WMM video together, in my opinion.
