Jackson's parrot was removed from his funeral for swearing. The parrot was named Poll and had a mouth like a sailor.
Andrew Jackson's Funeral.
The question should read what instead of who! The answer is President Jackson's pet parrot! Where do you think his parrot learned that 'foul' language? Could this have been, in some sense, him speaking from the grave?!
Andrew Jackson's parrot supposedly voiced obscenities at his funeral .
It is not definitively known which curse words Andrew Jackson's parrot specifically said at his funeral. According to historical accounts, the parrot was known for its foul language, but there is no specific record of its behavior during Jackson's funeral.
As Old Hickory was associated with Pirates in the Battle of New Orleans- Jean Lafitte a makeshift artillery man here, it might have been an ill-mannered parrot spouting out something quite different than (Pieces of Eight)- I have heard obscene parrots in a number oif pet shops -it is almost living pornography- literal meaning dirty words from the Greek Pornos- plus Graphic.
Andrew Jackson. Bloddy parrot!
The legend is that he had one at his home in TN and when he died, it spoke obscenities at his funeral.
Andrew Jackson, he of Old Hickory fame. I have heard this story before and methinks it is some kind of a myth- like that jab that the Statue of Liberty may have been patterned after Sarah Bernhardt ( this was done on a theatrical poster for her US tour- after the statue was built, of course). I just think it is some attempt at lightening up a sad subject.
Probably Andrew Jackson, who was a rough-hewn character to begin with, and as the song celebrated was engaged in the Battle of New Orleans with some unsavory Pirates and frontiersmen... so a rough-edged (Old Hickory) may well have had a pornographic parrot!
There is no historical record of anyone being asked to leave President Andrew Jackson's funeral for shouting obscenities. Jackson's funeral was a solemn and dignified event, attended by many mourners and dignitaries. In fact, Jackson's funeral procession was described as one of the largest in American history at that time.
some years ago whilst listening to Paul Harvey of a.m. notoriety I heard the following about the funeral service. The rest of the story...as a preacher lamented the passing of this great man...a voice began cursing and swearing. The assembled crowd of mourners weren't able to get the voice to be quiet. The verbal assault was launched by none other than Andrew Jacksons parrot. I remember this from long ago and was seeking to find a reputable source, not to become one. peace.
Parot - named Pol. Pol's vocabulary was rich with obscene language.
